What is benefit of Cloud Storage
Cloud storage is method in which data is being store on remote location and access it through internet. The purpose of cloud storage is to put the data on safe place and can be accessible at the any part of the world. It is becoming most popular way to save the data. According to statistic there are 1600 million equals to 1.6 billion cloud storage users worldwide, generating 4 billion USD revenue. The 85% of total data being transferred through mobile.
In the cloud storage word, cloud which means internet and storage means storing of data. This cloud storage platform provides by cloud service provider which are responsible for store the data, keep it safe and keeping data accessible to its user. This cloud service provider builds their physical storage and make available virtual storage to its users. The user can by the space in the cloud storage to use it.
The term cloud computing related first come to picture in 1960 by Joseph Carl Robnett Licklider during his work on ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network). Followed by CompuServe offered its user small amount of storage to store any file. In 1994, AT&T provides the fully web based storage. But the attention capture by cloud storage when amazon in 2006 launched storage service AWS S3. The trend being followed by many companies and provides cloud storage service with content management.
Types of cloud storage-
Object Storage: In this type of cloud storage application are being developed on the cloud. You might not have heard but all the application like Instagram etc. are made up from scratch on cloud. Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3) is the modern Object storage platform.
File storage: The end user stores the file on cloud and can share the access for further use. Amazon Elastic File System (EFS) are ideally used for file storage.
Block Storage: Amazon Elastic Block store (EBS) is the example of Block Storage where the enterprise application like data base or ERP system work.
Advantages of cloud storage:
All the data is on the cloud so easier to access the data from remote location.
Easier to develop application due to flexibility of data.
Easy to analyze also can perform powerful information management task.
The cloud storage is disaster proof backup. Since normally backup on multiple servers on different part of globe.
No need to carry the hardware can be access through internet link.
Cloud storage is more flexible; the data storage capacity can be easily increase according to requirement.
The data is safe and secure on cloud system uses authentication process like username and password.
Disadvantages of cloud storage:
To access the data on cloud require internet connection. Without internet connection the data is not accessible by the user.
To upload or access heavy data require strong internet connection which can limit its operation many times where the internet connection is weak.
Even the use of authentication it may be possible to access the private data by the third party.
The application or software build on cloud cannot manipulate locally.
Several cloud storage platform limits the bandwidth, to cross it need to pay extra charges. This factor should consider while choosing the platform because some companies provide unlimited bandwidth.
Even with such disadvantages due to the flexibility, better data utilization & efficiency and also making computing much easier the cloud storage will cross 270 billion USD by 2020. The cloud has started new era of computing in the field of Internet Technology.
